1 Dead, 23 Hospitalized After Fontana Summer Festival
FONTANA, Calif. (August 7, 2018) — Andrew Cole Click from Tracy, California died and 23 were hospitalized after attending this weekend’s HARD Summer Festival held at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, according to the Associated Press.
The man who died had been taken from the festival to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead about 11:45 p.m. on Sunday.
There were also 23 people taken to hospitals for various reasons and two women remained in the hospital overnight.
The festival attracted roughly 80,000 people on Saturday and 70,000 on Sunday, according to festival officials.
There were also 11 people were arrested at the festival, mostly for drug offenses, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
It’s not uncommon for deaths to take place at this festival. In fact, one man and two women in their 20s died after the festival in 2016. It turned out that all three of them died of toxicity from the drug MDMA — more commonly known as “ecstasy.
Just this past weekend in Chicago, a 16-year-old died attending the Lollapalooza music festival was found unresponsive and some 119 people there were hospitalized.
