Dennis Reed Jr., 35, Killed in DUI Crash ; Driver Arrested
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (March 30, 2020) – Harrison Mendoza, 21, was arrested after a crash early Sunday that killed his passenger on Jurupa Avenue near downtown Riverside.
Dennis Reed Jr., 35, of Corona, died in the solo-vehicle crash about 4:18 a.m., according to the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner.
Police say that Mendoza was driving a 1999 Infiniti G20 eastbound on Jurupa Avenue, but he reportedly lost control and went off the roadway at a curve at Pachappa Drive.
The Infiniti crashed into a stop sign and a light pole, police said.
Paramedics responded and treated Mendoza and his passenger on scene, but Reed was confirmed dead.
Upon further investigation, police determined that Mendoza was intoxicated at the time of the accident. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated as well as driving under the influence. Mendoza was booked into Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside and held in lieu of $75,000 bail.
