Major Injuries in Crash on State Route Highway 43
KERN COUNTY, Calif. (Jan. 22, 2024) — A major injury crash happened Friday afternoon on Highway 43 near Whisler Road, just north of Wasco in Kern County.
The head-on crash occurred at around 5:18 p.m. on Jan. 19th, according to the California Highway Patrol’s dispatch report.
Bakersfield Now reports the drivers of a pickup truck and a grey sedan were involved in the crash.
There was at least one person who sustained major injuries in the collision. The person was unconscious and was taken by Mercy Air to Kern Medical Center for further treatment.
The case remains under investigation to determine fault for the head-on crash on Highway 43 in Kern County.
Kern County Traffic Statistics
There were 5,391 injury and fatality collisions in Riverside County in 2020, according to the most recent statistics compiled by the Office of Traffic Safety. Also, 785 of these collisions involved alcohol and 847 were speed related, the report said. The county ranks 16th among 58 similar sized counties in California for it’s number of traffic injuries and fatalities.
Furthermore, the report states that 326 of the injury or fatality collisions involved a motorcyclist and 228 involved a pedestrian.
