Head-on Crash on Altamont Pass Road, Carroll Road in Livermore

Head-on Crash on Altamont Pass Road, Carroll Road in Livermore

LIVERMORE, Calif. (Sept. 18, 2026) — A head-on crash involving two semi-trucks, a Tesla and a Toyota Camry, shut down both directions of Altamont Pass Road Friday morning in Livermore, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Sept. 18th collision was first reported at approximately 6:19 a.m. on eastbound Altamont Pass Road just west of Carroll Road. Initial reports described the crash as a head-on collision involving a white Toyota Camry, a blue Tesla Model 3 sedan, and two semi-trucks.

CHP reported that the blue Tesla had apparently crossed the double-yellow lines before the collision. The car then struck an eastbound white semi-truck head-on, according to the incident log.

The crash involved significant damage. The truck also collided with the Toyota, resulting in a broken right-front axle, while the Tesla was described as having extensive damage and requiring a flatbed tow.

At approximately 6:31 a.m., CHP reported that a person inside the Tesla was trapped but appeared to be conscious. Fire crews were working to extricate the occupant. Authorities also requested a helicopter to respond. The Tesla driver, a Stockeon resident, was taken to Eden Medical Center with moderate injuries.

A Waste Management semi was initially reported as being involved but with no injuries reported to its occupants.

By 6:39 a.m., CHP issued a traffic alert stating that all lanes were blocked because of the crash, with no estimated reopening time available. Drivers were advised to use an alternate route.

The eastbound roadway remained closed near Greenville Road as emergency crews worked at the scene. Tow trucks were subsequently requested for the damaged Toyota Camry and Tesla.

The circumstances surrounding the crash, including the number and severity of injuries, remained under investigation. CHP had not released additional information about the occupants involved.
