Hector Garza, 45, Killed in Walnut Creek Crash on South Broadway
WALNUT CREEK (October 27, 2018) – A driver killed after an alleged DUI crash along South Broadway extension Thursday has been identified as Hector Garza, according to East Bay Times and CBS San Francisco.
Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office said the 45-year-old Walnut Creek man was one of the victims of the tragic accident which was reported just after 6:30 p.m.
As per the reports, police said 35-year-old Jessica Martin was driving her jeep type of vehicle south at the South Broadway extension from southbound Interstate 680 when at the same time three vehicles were headed in the opposite direction.
The Tennesse woman then struck head-on one car, before hitting the other two northbound cars. Garza, who was driving the second vehicle hit by Martin, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Suspect Jessica Martin, 35, Arrested For DUI
Police affirmed that a young child riding with Garza was found suffering from major injuries following the collision. The juvenile was rushed to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland and was listed in critical condition.
The driver of the first car hit by the woman was extricated from the wreckage and then taken to the hospital with major injuries. The motorist in the third victim vehicle was also hospitalized with minor wounds.
The names of the wounded parties were not disclosed. Meanwhile, Martin was believed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time. She was ultimately arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
