1 Dead, 5 Hurt in Walnut Crash DUI Crash
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (Oct. 26, 2018) — Hector Garza, 45, of Walnut Creek died and five others injured following a suspected DUI collision Thursday night on the South Broadway extension.
Jessica Martin, 35, of Tennessee, was arrested on vehicular manslaughter charges after the collision.
The 4-vehicle crash took place about 6:30 p.m. with one vehicle overturning.
Martin’s vehicle allegedly crashed head-on into three other motorists, killing one of them and injuring five others including herself. A child in Hector Garza’s vehicle suffered major injuries. A driver in one of the other vehicles also suffered major injuries.
Paramedics responded to help those who were hurt. One person died of their injuries and the others suffered minor to moderate injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by police.
Walnut Creek Crash Investigation
Police are reviewing the evidence and any witness statements to determine fault. At this time, it is believed that Jessica Martin caused the crash and will be held accountable in criminal court. The injured and the family of the person who died may file a civil lawsuit as well.
