Hector Rabinal Killed and Ariel Rabinal Critically Injured in Ontario DUI Crash
ONTARIO, CA (July 5, 2021) – A DUI crash killed Hector Rabinal and critically injured Ariel Rabinal near Riverside Drive and Euclid Avenue in Ontario.
Family members identified the two as victims of the fatal collision which took place on Monday morning. The two men were cousins and known as local fruit vendors.
The incident began when Hector Eduardo Rabinal, 32; and Ariel Tacubal Rabinal, 20, were crossing north on Riverside Drive near Euclid Avenue in Ontario.
Police said a white van approached and struck the pedestrians and their fruit carts. KTLA News and CBS Los Angeles wrote that the accident occurred at around 11:15 a.m.
Fruit Vendors Hit by Van
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and then found both victims lying on the ground. Hector Rabinal died at the scene. Ariel Rabinal sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash.
Medical personnel soon rushed him to a hospital and listed him in critical condition. Loved ones set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the funeral expenses of Hector Rabinal.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the woman driving the van was under the influence at the time. Officers took her to a hospital for treatment of minor wounds.
Authorities soon arrested the driver on suspicion of felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. Police forced the area of Riverside and Euclid to shut down for hours following the collision.
The Ontario DUI crash is still under investigation.
