Riverside Man, 22, Identified as Victim of Crash on the I-215 Freeway
MENIFEE, Calif. (Aug. 2, 2022) — Hector Serrano, 22, of Riverside, died in a Menifee crash Monday on the Interstate 215 Freeway, just a quarter mile north of McCall Boulevard in Riverside County.
A young man was riding as a passenger in a vehicle driven by his 46-year-old father.
The Menifee collision occurred about 5:54 a.m. on August 1st, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The two men were traveling together in a Toyota T100 pickup truck that reportedly overturned onto its side on the center median the southbound Escondido Freeway also known as the Interstate 215 Freeway.
Semi-Truck Has Tire Blowout; Pickup Tries to Avoid Collision
Apparently, the pickup truck was traveling in the fast lane near a big rig truck that was hauling large round pipes. The larger truck was in the No. 2 lane when it suddenly got a flat tire on its left front tire, according to the Riverside Press Enterprise. The father driving the pickup attempted to avoid a collision with the big rig truck and swerved towards the center median of the freeway. However, he reportedly lost control of the pickup and it overturned twice before ending up in the No. 3 lane. Hector Serrano suffered major injuries and died at the scene, according to the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner.
Investigators are working on the case and will determine fault for the Menifee 215 Freeway crash.
