2 Dead in Madera County Car Accident on Highway 145
MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (Sept. 7, 2018) – Heidi Vanzeyl, 53, of Coarsegold and Karrie Lynn Peterson, 51, of Oakhurst, have been identified as the two people who died in a collision on Highway 145.
Three others were injured in the crash on Friday morning at Highway 41, near Road 38, according to California Highway Patrol.
The traffic accident took place about 10:40 a.m. near Road 208.
A driver in a gray Ford Fusion was reportedly speeding as they attempted to pass another vehicle in an unsafe manner, but instead crashed head-on into an oncoming Hyundai driven by Karrie Lynn Peterson.
Peterson was killed in the collision as was Heidi Vanzeyl who was a front-seat passenger in the Ford Fusion. The driver of the Ford and two rear-seat passengers were all hospitalized. The passengers were taken to Community Regional Medical Center and the driver to CRMC.
Police closed down Highway 145 to investigate the crash.
Fatal Crash Investigation
The investigation into this tragic crash is underway. At this time, it appears that the driver of the Ford is at fault for the crash and could face criminal charges as well as a civil lawsuit.
