Child Killed in Richmond Hit-and-Run Collision Identified
RICHMOND, Calif. (February 13, 2020) – Heitor Correira, 4, was killed after an alleged hit-and-run collision Friday afternoon on Coalinga Avenue in Richmond.
The fatal pedestrian accident took place about 5 p.m. on Feb. 7th in the 2200 block of Coalinga Avenue, according to reports by East Bay Times and NBC Bay Area.
A driver struck the 4-year-old boy as he was standing with his father outside of their Richmond home on Coalinga Avenue.
Paramedics responded to the scene and treated the critically injured boy before rushing him to a local hospital where he later died at 11:50 p.m.
A Go Fund Me page was established to help the boy’s family with funeral expenses.
Meanwhile, the driver of a metallic blue Ford Explorer fled the scene westbound on Coalinga Avenue toward 23rd Street.
The driver of the involved SUV later turned himself in to Richmond police on Saturday night, but it’s unknown at this time what charges the suspect faces. Jaiane Carreiro, the boy’s mother, told news reporters that she was grateful to those who helped police identify leads on the suspect.
