HELENDALE (September 26, 2016)- According to the traffic report, a 2-car collision resulted in a single fatality and injuries to several others on Monday, September 19th.
The crash took place at approximately 7:07 p.m. on National Trails Highway near Vista Road.
The report read that Irene Dingman, 90, was the driver of a Toyota Highlander headed westbound on National Trails before veering into eastbound lanes triggering a collision with a Nissan 350Z driven by a 34-year-old woman of Phelan.
The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and confirmed that Dingman had sustained major injuries as did the Phelan woman. Both victims were extricated from their vehicles by firefighter personnel.
Dingman was flown from the scene to Loma Linda Med Center, where she succumbed to her injuries several days later on Friday, September 23rd.
The report indicated the 34-year-old woman suffered massive injuries to her legs as both of them were fractured. She also had significant lacerations on her torso and throughout her body, as she was flown to a trauma center. An update on her condition has not been provided at this time.
The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation as it remains pending.
