HEMET: Hundreds Mourn Loss of 2 Young Men Killed in Rollover Crash

HEMET, California (November 11, 2014) – Hundreds of people gathered at two candlelight vigils held Sunday and Monday nights at West Valley High School to honor two young men who were killed in a weekend rollover crash.

The two young friends were identified as Andre Vega, 18, was a star athlete and member of the West Valley football team, and Christian Griffith, 20, was an aspiring actor and talented singer who graduated from the high school in 2013.

These young men were out with four friends late Saturday night celebrating Griffith’s 20th birthday. They were both killed when the driver of the 2013 Hyundai SUV they were traveling in lost control and overturned about 11:15 p.m. on Domenigoni Parkway, just west of State Street, according to a report by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Coroner and a report in the Press Enterprise.

The vehicle had been traveling at speeds of approximately 65 mph. Several of the passengers were ejected during the crash as the car rolled over multiple times.Four others who were riding in the car were injured and hospitalized including Norine Myers, Linda Rangel and Chloe Hess. 19, who was reportedly driving the vehicle.

Two of the occupants in the car have been released from hospital and the others were listed in stable condition.

“This is a tragedy for this community. My heart goes out to the families of these two young men as they cope with their loss,” said Attorney James Johnson.
