RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. (June 12, 2023) — Six children were injured Friday in a crash between a car and a Hemet school bus on North Cawston Avenue, near Highway 74.
A driver of a white Toyota Camry sedan collided with the Hemet Unified School District bus around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 9th, according to the Riverside Press Enterprise.
The California Highway Patrol reported there were 53 middle school children aboard the bus at the time of the collision.
The Hemet Fire Department sent paramedics and firefighters the the scene where they located the school bus sustained with moderate damage and the children had complaints of pain with no external signs of injuries.
Authorities reported the driver in the Toyota was involved in a previous collision in a parking lot on Florida Avenue. The motorist apparently fled that collision prior to the school bus crash.
The case remains under investigation.
