Walmart Truck Hits Pedestrian in Fatal Crash on Interstate 15
VICTORVILLE, Calif. (Oct. 6, 2023) — Henry Yerena Rodriguez, 83, of Henderson Nevada, died early Sunday in a Victorville pedestrian accident involving a Walmart truck on the southbound Interstate 15 freeway.
The collision occurred at around 3:04 a.m. on Sunday, October 1st, just north of the Stoddard Wells Road off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch.
A driver in a Walmart semi-truck struck the victim due to unknown circumstances and then pulled over and stopped on the shoulder of the freeway.
The truck driver called 911 for help and paramedics responded to the freeway crash scene and located the pedestrian already deceased in traffic lanes.
Authorities requested CalTrans make a hard closure of the Nos. 3 and 4 lanes.
The coroner responded to take the Henderson man’s body and he was later identified as Henry Yerena Rodriguez on the website for the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner.
The circumstances leading up to the Victorville pedestrian accident on the Interstate 15 Freeway remain under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Victorville station.
Pedestrian Accident Statistics
Fatal pedestrian accidents in California rose 9.4 percent from 1,013 in 2020 to 1,108 in 2021, according to statistics compiled by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
Victorville accounted for 38 pedestrian deaths in 2020 and overall had 639 traffic fatalities that year, the OTS reports.
