Herman Charles Avery Jr. ID’d as Victim of Fatal Crash
LOS ANGELES, California (Oct. 30, 2017) — A hit-and-run driver struck and killed 76-year-old Herman Charles Avery Jr. of Inglewood Sunday night at 82nd Street and Western Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The collision was reported about 6:20 p.m. last night (Oct. 29).
UPDATE: Suspect hit-and-run driver, Shauntrell Darnell Matthews, 41, of Los Angeles turned himself in to police on Nov. 1.
Police had been searching for the suspect motorist who fled on foot after the crash, leaving the vehicle behind. The Mr. Avery died of his injuries at the scene of the crash.
The suspect was seen entering a liquor store with a boy approximately 7 years old. He took a Coke from the store without paying, but he was caught on surveillance video.
Matthews posted $50,000 bail and was released, but is due in
court on Nov. 22 in downtown Los Angeles, according to sheriff’s inmate

Police are searching for the suspect who left this innocent person to die without stopping to call for help. They are going over the facts of this case to also determine liability.
