HESPERIA: Family of 5 Killed in Crash on Way to Disneyland
2 Adults, 3 Children Killed After Van Lands on Top of Their Car
HESPERIA, California (May 12, 2014) – Two adults and three children were killed early Sunday morning as they headed to Disneyland on Mother’s Day at Main Street and Balsam Avenue, according to a press release by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner.
About 6:55 a.m., police reported that the male driver of a large white van swerved over into opposing traffic and crashed head-on with the family’s Honda sedan occupied by Angelica and Gerardo Jimenez and their three children ages 2, 4 and 9., ABC News reported. The van landed upside down on top of the Honda killing the entire family of five. The Honda had been stopped at a stop sign in opposing traffic lanes.
At the scene, paramedics removed the father and his son from the Honda and they were transported to nearby hospitals where they died. The mother, her daughter and the second son, all died at the scene of the crash while trapped in the Honda.
The driver of the van suffered minor injuries in the wreck and was treated at the scene, but not arrested.
Police are investigating what caused the van to veer into opposing traffic and are asking for witnesses to come forward to aid in their investigation into this tragedy. Please contact the Hesperia police at (760) 947-1500.
