HESPERIA, California (March 17, 2015)– A woman was critically injured Sunday night when she was struck while crossing the street in her wheelchair at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Main Street, according to the Victor Valley News.
The woman and a man were both riding motorized wheelchairs as they attempted to cross 3rd Avenue to enter a gas station parking lot about 7:45 p.m. The woman was hit by the driver and thrown onto the ground as her wheelchair was split in half. The driver was in an older-model 2-door black/burgundy Honda Accord or Civic occupied by two people. They failed to stop and fled the scene.
Paramedics responded and she was airlifted her by helicopter to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment of critical injuries.
Witnesses are asked to contact the Hesperia Police Department at 760-947-1500.
“I certainly hope this woman gets the best care available for a full recovery and that this driver is located and brought to justice,” said Attorney James Johnson.
