3 Officers Badly Injured in Car Crash on Rogers Lane
HIGHLAND (May 23, 2018) – Three law enforcement officials were injured in a car accident on Rogers Lane Wednesday afternoon, according to KTLA News.
At approximately 1:15 p.m., enforcement officials investigating a shooting in Highland in the 7400 block of Rogers Lane.
Unlicensed Driver Hits Patrol Car and Officers in Highland
Authorities said the officers were just about the leave the scene, which they had been combing for evidence, when they were hit by a 2018 Nissan Sentra. The Sentra first collided with a sheriff’s patrol car before hitting the officers.
Medical records indicated one patrol sergeant was airlifted, and the other two officers were taken to a nearby trauma center for treatment of what appeared to be serious injuries.
At this time, investigators are still unsure what caused the driver of the Sentra involved, 20-year-old Hugo Pineda Jr., to strike the parked patrol car. Pineda did not show signs of intoxication at the time of the crash, but he was driving without a license, officials said.
Further investigation on the case is ongoing.
