Deadly Hit-and-run in Potomac Park Area

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (July 1, 2024) — A fatal hit-and-run car accident happened Sunday afternoon at East California Avenue and Mount Vernon Avenue near the 76 gas station in Potomac Park.

The deadly crash occurred at around 2:22 p.m. on June 30th in East Bakersfield, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A driver collided with another motorist due to unknown circumstances. Then a passenger from the victim’s vehicle reportedly exited their vehicle and jumped on the suspect’s car, Yahoo News reports. The suspect fled and the victim fell off the vehicle and sustained major injuries.

CHP officials reported a woman called 911 for help after her daughter told her the father was hurt in the hit-and-run crash.

Police and firefighters responded to the scene, but unfortunately the man died from his injuries. The victim’s name and age will be released at a later time.

Investigators are working on the case and searching for the suspect who fled.
