Bicyclist Injured in Crash in Rancho Peñasquitos Area
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (July 16, 2024) — A 60-year-old woman riding a bicycle was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident on Rancho Peñasquitos Boulevard in San Diego.
The bicyclist suffered a life-threatening brain bleed and broken neck when a driver in an SUV struck her Sunday morning at 8:45 a.m., on July 14th, according 10 News.
The driver struck the victim on Rancho Peñasquitos Boulevard and then fled the scene, police said.
The woman was riding her mountain bike eastbound towards the freeway when she was struck from behind somewhere between the Interstate 15 Freeway and state Route 56, police said.
The driver of the midsized silver or charcoal grey SUV did not stop. Meanwhile, paramedics rushed the woman to a hospital where she underwent surgery and is being treated for the major brain bleed and fractured vertebrae in her neck.
Medics took the victim to a hospital where she was rushed into surgery, Foster said. The victim sustained a “significant brain bleed” and a fractured vertebrae in her lower neck.
