
Driver Arrested on Suspicion of DUI, Hit-and-run
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Nov. 20, 20232) — A 33-year-old man suffered major injuries in a pedestrian accident on University Avenue in the Hillcrest area of San Diego.
Also, the driver who struck the victim at around 8:41 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19th, fled the scene on foot twice, but both times witnesses brought him back to the scene, according to the Times of San Diego.
The victim was crossing in the 1000 block of University Avenue when a 35-year-old man driving a silver 2011 Mercedes struck him in the westbound Nos. 1 and 2 lanes.
The driver stopped his vehicle and witnesses said he ran away and then returned. While the witnesses helped the injured man, the suspect tried to leave again, but the bystanders chased him down and walked him back to the scene.
Police responded and arrested the driver on suspicion of felony hit and run and driving under the influence.
Meanwhile, the unidentified pedestrian was transported to a hospital where he is being treated for a skull fracture and brain bleed, police said.
The San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Unit is heading up the investigation into the collision.
