Scooter Rider Killed in Hollywood Crash at Vine Street and Sunset Boulevard
LOS ANGELES (April 13, 2019) – A scooter rider was killed after an alleged DUI hit-and-run crash in the area of Vine Street and Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood early Saturday.
Police said the incident began when 26-year-old Jared Walter Anderson was driving a 2011 Dodge Ram south on Vine Street.
The Utah man then made a left turn to eastbound Sunset Boulevard, and hit a man who was riding a rental scooter at the time. The accident took place at approximately 2:55 a.m.
According to reports by KTLA and CBS Los Angeles, the victim, a man in his 30s, was crossing in a marked crosswalk at the intersection when he was hit.
Jared Anderson, 26, Arrested For DUI Hit-and-Run
Paramedics responded to the scene and immediately taken to a hospital where he later died. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that Anderson fled following the collision but was later detained by the police. He has reportedly a prior DUI conviction out of Utah from 2014.
The suspect, who was believed to have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs when the incident occurred, was arrested on suspicion of murder with a bail set at $2 million.
