HOMELAND, California (August 22, 2017) — Alexander Cervantes, 26, of Moreno Valley has been arrested on drunk driving charges Sunday after a fatal rollover collision on Highway 74 near Olsen Avenue, according to the Press Enterprise.
The fatal crash took place Sunday, Aug. 20 about 3:38 p.m. in the 31000 block of Highway 74, just east of Menifee, the California Highway Patrol reported. The driver of a 2000 Ford Ranger was killed as he or she pulled out of a Valero gas station. The victim was struck by Cervantes’ 2015 Honda CRV, police said. The two vehicles both overturned during impact. Passersby manged to pull the victim out of their vehicle, but they died a the scene. The victim’s name has not been released, pending notification of their family.
Police arrested Cervantes on suspicion of drunk driving, police said.
Fatal Crash Investigation
Police will determine what type of charges will be filed against the driver of a collision involving a fatality and DUI. A convicted drunk driver may lose their license for a period of time and face charges such as manslaughter or even murder if there are previous drunk driving convictions.
