Hossein Safaie Killed in 5 Freeway Crash Near Griffith Park

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (June 19, 2026) – Hossein Safaie, 77, died early Friday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on the Golden State (5) Freeway, just south of Glendale Boulevard near Griffith Park.
The collision, which occurred at 2:56 a.m. on Friday, June 19th, happened on the southbound Interstate 5 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s office later identified the man on its website.
Meanwhile, a second person was injured and transported to a hospital, according to the CHP traffic log.
Detectives are working to determine the cause of the crash and liability.
A Sigalert was issued at 3:22 a.m., but later it was canceled at 5:55 a.m.
