Celia Flores Orozco and Jose Valdez Orozco Killed in Montclair DUI Crash
MONTCLAIR (February 13, 2020) – Authorities detained the alleged DUI driver that killed grandparents and seriously injured a child at Howard Street and Ransom Avenue on Saturday.
Police determined that 32-year-old Hugo Javier Rodriguez Rios was the suspect in the tragic 2-car crash which occurred on February 8.
Officers said Rodriguez Rios was driving a 1995 Ford Explorer when he collided with a Nissan sedan at the intersection of Howard Street and Ramona Avenue.
Montclair Fire Department officials along with the paramedics responded and pronounced the driver and one passenger of the sedan dead at the scene.
The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased victims as Celia Flores Orozco, 67; and Jose Valdez Orozco, 65, both of Pomona.
Suspected Drunk Driver ID’d as Hugo Rodriguez Rios, 32
Medical personnel rushed the grandson of the Orozcos, a 5-year-old boy, to the hospital with serious injuries. The grandmother was driving the sedan the 10:33 p.m. wreck occurred.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that Rodriguez Rios was also hospitalized with major injuries. Officers believed that he ran the stop sign and struck the other vehicle.
Authorities determined that the Garden Grove man was under the influence of alcohol at the time. They then took him into custody at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
Officers arrested him on suspicion of with three counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury with a bail set at $1 million.
