Humberto Velasquez Lopez, 55, Killed in Bakersfield Pedestrian Accident
BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 23, 2021) – A pedestrian crash killed Humberto Velasquez Lopez at Bernard and Baker streets in Bakersfield.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office identified the 55-year-old man as the victim of the fatal collision which took place on Tuesday night.
The incident happened on June 22 when Humberto Velasquez Lopez was crossing Bernard Street in Bakersfield. At the same time, a 2009 Chevrolet Impala was going east.
Man Hit by Car at Bernard and Baker Streets
For an unknown reason, the driver of the Chevrolet failed to notice the pedestrian in a marked crosswalk. In the process, the car struck him at the intersection with Baker Street.
The California Highway Patrol said Humberto Velasquez Lopez sustained major injuries as a result of the pedestrian crash. Kern Golden Empire wrote that the accident occurred at around 9:15 p.m.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and then rushed him to the Kern Medical, where he died. Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the motorist involved stopped after hitting the victim.
The driver stayed at the site and cooperated with the officers. The Bakersfield pedestrian collision is still under investigation.
