Humboldt County Fatal Crash State Route 299 Lord Ellis Summit

2 Killed, 1 Injured in Crash on State Route 299 Near Lord Ellis Summit

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA (April 21, 2023) – A crash killed two people and injured another person on State Route 299 near Lord Ellis Summit in Humboldt County.

According to The Times Standard and KYMKEMP, the tragic accident took place on Thursday afternoon. Officers reported the wreck on April 20 at about 12:39 p.m.

The incident began when a white Ford F–550 service truck was going west on State Route 299, west of Lord Ellis Summit. At the same time, a gray Hyundai Tucson was traveling east.

Multiple Vehicles Collide

For an unknown reason, the Ford and the Hyundai then collided head-on. The California Highway Patrol said the impact pushed the Tucson into a 2020 Kenworth semi-truck heading east.

Paramedics soon arrived and pronounced the two female occupants of the Hyundai dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision.

CHP added that the operator of the Kenworth ended up unarmed following the wreck. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.

Meanwhile, officers forced a stretch of State Route 299 to shut down for two hours near Lord Ellis after the accident. The cause of the fatal crash is still under investigation.
