FULLERTON, Calif. (Dec. 28, 2022) – Hunter Shekels, 20, died in a crash on Yorba Ranch Road in Yorba Linda, now his 19-year-old friend is facing manslaughter and other charges.
Noah Christopher Cooper Watson, 19, of Yorba Linda, has been charged with a felony count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and a felony count of carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm a vehicle, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
“This is yet another tragic loss of life because someone made a terrible decision to drink and get behind
the wheel of a vehicle,” said Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer. “Hunter’s family should be
preparing to celebrate the holidays and instead they are planning his funeral.”
The two friends were reportedly riding together in a Ford F-350 pickup truck driven by Noah Watson. The teenage motorist is accused of driving at roughly 100 mph when the vehicle crashed about 10:50 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16th, the report said. The vehicle crashed into a center median before it hit a eucalyptus tree on Yorba Ranch Road near Via Sepulveda.
Hunter Shekels suffered major injuries and died following the collision. Meanwhile, Noah Watson survived with undisclosed injuries. He was released on $100,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at the North Justice Center, Dept. N3, in Fullerton on Jan. 26th.
The family of Hunter Shekels has a GoFundMe page to raise money for his funeral expenses.
