Bicyclist Killed in Huntington Beach; Joe Valdivia Arrested
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (July 14, 2020) – A man riding a bicycle was killed early Tuesday in Huntington Beach by a hit-and-run driver at Beach Boulevard and Sunrise Drive, roughly a half mile from Pacific Coast Highway.
The suspect, identified as Joe Alfred Valdivia, 46, of Huntington Beach, fled the scene, but was later located and arrested by Huntington Beach police.
The collision took place about 12:25 a.m., according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.
When police arrived they found the male bicyclist unresponsive in the roadway and the driver had fled the scene,’ a police statement said.
Paramedics eventually pronounced the bicyclist dead at the scene, but he has not been identified publicly.
Police found the vehicle and Valdivia was charged with hit-and-run resulting in a death or injury and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance.
