Ian Borden, 25, Struck and Badly Injured by Vehicle on Highway 12 at Boas Drive

November 8, 2018 – A 25-year-old man was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 12, also known as Sonoma Highway, Wednesday evening, according to the Press Democrat.
Preliminary investigation revealed Ian Thomas Borden, of Santa Rosa, was crossing the four-lane highway from north to south at Boas Drive crossing when he was hit by a vehicle heading east on the highway. The impact resulted in major injuries to Borden, who was reportedly taken to a hospital.
Officials said the bicyclist remained hospitalized in critical condition Thursday, less than 24 hours after the accident.

Authorities also identified the other motorist involved as 50-year-old Oleksandr Kachan, of Citrus Heights. The driver apparently came upon Borden too late to stop and avoid collision.
As per the article, the incident snarled eastbound traffic Wednesday for about three hours because of closed lanes. At this time, detectives handling the case continue to investigate liability in the collision.
