Ima Flippen, 77, Killed in Bakersfield Crash on Olive Drive Near Knudsen
BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 27, 2021) – Ima Flippen was killed after a DUI crash near Olive Drive and Knudsen Drive in Bakersfield.
The coroner’s office identified the 77-year-old woman as the victim of the fatal collision which took place on August 13.
The incident began when Ima Jean Flippen was riding as a passenger in a Ford Crown Victoria in the city of Bakersfield. The car was traveling near the area of Olive Drive and Knudsen Drive.
A Ford F-150 went over the center divide and into the opposite lane. The California Highway Patrol said the pickup truck then slammed into the Crown Victoria.
Woman 19, Arrested For DUI
Ima Flippen died at the scene of the Bakersfield crash. The Bakersfield Californian and 23 ABC News wrote that the accident occurred at around 9:22 p.m. over Highway 99.
Paramedics rushed the driver of the Crown Victoria, a 50-year-old woman, to the Kern Medical for treatment of major injuries. Officials did not disclose her name and condition at this time.
Meanwhile, the 19-year-old woman driving the pickup also ended up hospitalized with major injuries. CHP determined she was under the influence when she struck the victims.
Officers arrested the motorist on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. The Bakersfield crash is still under investigation.
