Imelda de Buenrostro and 4 Others Injured in Los Banos Crash on Highway 165
LOS BANOS (February 20, 2018) – A traffic collision along Highway 165 left five people injured on Tuesday morning, according to Merced Sun-Star.
The accident involving three vehicles took place shortly before 8 a.m. near Pioneer Road.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said 20-year-old Antonio Munoz III was driving a 2017 Honda south when he turned left across Highway 165.
The Los Banos man sideswiped a 2011 Nissan. Its driver then lost control of the car and went off the roadway into a concrete irrigation ditch.
Munoz continued south and struck a 2014 Ford head-on. Both vehicles came to a stop on the roadside.
CHP affirmed that the 38-year-old Los Banos woman operating the Ford, Imelda de Buenrostro, was transported to Doctors Medical Center with injuries described as moderate. Three occupants of the Nissan were also hospitalized as a precaution.
Munoz was seriously wounded and was airlifted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment. Los Banos Police Officer Surina Gonzales who freed Munoz from the wreckage was also hurt as she cut her hand while attempting to open the car’s door.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
