
3 Killed in Imperial County Crash on Interstate 8 Near Forrester
IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA (February 21, 2023) – A wrong-way crash killed several people on the Interstate 8 near Forrester Road in Imperial County.
According to The Desert Review and Calexico Chronicle, the tragic accident took place on Monday evening. Officers reported the wreck on February 20 at about 7:36 p.m.
The incident began when a 2021 Tesla Model 3 was traveling east in the westbound lanes of the Interstate 8, east of Forrester Road, in Imperial County. At the same time, a 2016 Acura ILX was going west.
Tesla Travels Wrong Way, Hits Another Car
The California Highway Patrol said in the process, the Tesla slammed head-on into the Acura. The speeding car then became fully engulfed in flames upon impact.
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived and pronounced the 28-year-old Coachella man driving the Acura dead at the scene.
The driver of the Tesla and their passenger died as a result of the collision. The names of all the deceased parties have not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, CHP forced the westbound lanes of the Interstate 8 to shut down near Forrester following the wreck. The cause of the fatal Imperial County crash is still under investigation.
