1 Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash on Evan Hewes Highway and Meloland Road
IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA (August 25, 2021) – At least one was hospitalized after a hit-and-run crash near Evan Hewes Highway and Meloland Road.
The California Highway Patrol first logged the incident on Wednesday evening. Officers reported the accident at about 7:54 p.m. in the Meloland area.
According to their dispatch, two vehicles collided for an unknown reason. They crashed on westbound East Evan Hewes Highway, just east of Meloland Road.
2 Vehicles Collide
One of the cars involved rolled over upon impact. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene near the University of California Desert Research and Extension Center.
They found one person who sustained unspecified injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel then took the patient to the El Centro Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Officials did not disclose the name of the wounded victim and their condition at this time. Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that one of the drivers involved did not stop to help and fled the area.
Officers forced Evan Hewes near Meloland to shut down following the hit-and-run crash. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
