2 Children Hurt in Imperial County Crash on Interstate 8 Near Dunaway Road
IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA (November 8, 2022) – Two children were hospitalized after a motorhome crash on the Interstate 8 near Dunaway Road in Imperial County.
According to an article published by The Desert Review, the accident took place on Sunday afternoon. Officers reported the wreck on November 6 at around 2:27 p.m.
The incident happened when a 2003 International 4300 box truck was going east on on the Interstate 8, west of Dunaway Road, in Imperial County.
At the same time, a 2006 Beaver Monterrey Motorhome was traveling west. The driver of the box truck, 62-year-old Henry Herren, failed to maintain the vehicle within its lane of travel.
Motorhome and Box Truck Collide
The Santee man went into the westbound lanes and slammed into the Beaver Monterrey. He sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision but declined medical attention.
The two passengers of the motorhome, a 12-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy, survived the incident with minor injuries.
An air ambulance flew the girl to the Rady’s Children Hospital in San Diego. A ground ambulance rushed the boy to the El Centro Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The operator of the motorhome, 50-year-old Jaime Nguyen Garcia, from Las Vegas, Nevada ended up unharmed. Meanwhile, the cause of the Imperial County crash
Officers forced the westbound side of the Interstate 5 to shut down near Dunaway following the wreck.
