Woman in Wheelchair Hit and Killed by Vehicle at Avenue 51 and Monroe Street Sunday
Indio, CA (October 19, 2021) – A deadly pedestrian accident occurred in the area of Avenue 51 and Monroe Street on October 17, Sunday.
According to KESQ News, a elderly woman in a motorized wheelchair attempted to cross the Indio intersection. Officials said a passing vehicle failed to avoid the victim, and struck the woman in wheelchair.
Rescue teams arrived at the location shortly after 2:10 p.m.
Pedestrian Dies in Hospital After Accident in Indio, October 17
Paramedics reportedly found the victim sitting upright on the dirt shoulder of Monroe Street. Due to the severity of the injuries of the woman, an ambulance rushed her to the hospital. The article published online mentioned the patient sadly succumbed to her injuries and died. Authorities continue to withhold the name of the deceased pending confirmation and notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, officers said the driver involved in the unfortunate event stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation process.
Detectives continue to work at this time to determine liability in the deadly pedestrian accident at Avenue 51 and Monroe Street.
