Fatal Indio Pedestrian Accident on Interstate 10 Freeway
INDIO, Calif. (Feb. 11, 2019) — A pedestrian was struck and killed early Saturday morning on the Interstate 10 Freeway, just west of Jackson Street in Indio.
The unidentified person was struck by a motorist in the westbound lanes about 2:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of a Honda initially did not realize they struck a person and reported hitting a large unknown object on the freeway to police after they had driven themselves home.
The initial report by the CHP was a closure to clean up the “remains of animal across all lanes.”
Upon their arrival at the scene of the collision, however, police discovered the large object was a pedestrian. The person was pronounced dead at the scene on the freeway.
Police closed down the Interstate 10 freeway’s westbound lanes for roughly three hours at Jackson Street.
They issued a Sig Alert and diverted traffic off at Jackson Street.
The CHP is asking witnesses or anyone with information to contact Officer Dyer, at (760) 772-5300.
