Inmate’s Death at OC Sheriff’s Dept. Central Jail Suspicious
SANTA ANA, California (July 5, 2017) — The death of a 27-year-old inmate who was being housed at the Intake/Release Center in the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Central Jail Complex is under investigation.
Danny Pham died about 11:30 a.m. on Monday, July 3 at the facility where he was being housed after he was sentenced to 180 days for felony unlawful taking of a vehicle in April.
The young man’s death was discovered during food delivery at the facility, despite life-saving efforts by an Orange County Sheriff’s Department deputy who found the injured man about 7:20 a.m. Medical staff and the Orange County Fire Authority also responded to help Pham, but he was pronounced dead at the jail about 11:30 a.m.

Police are now investigating what the cause of his death was. It’s unclear why Pham was not taken to a hospital during the four hours between the time he was discovered injured and when he died.
The cause of his death is currently undetermined pending the outcome of a coroner investigation.
There is also a criminal investigation into whether this was an act of homicide.
The Orange County District Attorney’s office is heading up an investigation.
