Irais Hernandez-Mateo, 26, Seriously Injured in Trinity County Crash on Highway 3
TRINITY COUNTY, CA (May 11, 2021) – A fatal crash on Highway 3 seriously injured Irais Hernandez-Mateo in Trinity County.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 26-year-old Santa Cruz woman as one of the wounded victims in the accident which occurred on Monday.
The incident happened when Irais Hernandez-Mateo was driving a 2017 Toyota 4Runner south on Highway 3 in Trinity County. At the same time, a 2006 Honda S2000 was going north.
For an unknown reason, the Honda crossed over the double yellow lines across the southbound lane. CHP said the car went directly into the path of the Toyota.
Boy, 5, Hurt in Collision Near Rourke Ranch Road
The two vehicles then collided south of Rourke Ranch Road. Action News Now and KRCRTV News wrote that the wreck took place on May 10 at midnight near Hayfork.
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and found Irais Hernandez-Mateo suffering from major injuries as a result of the Highway 3 crash.
Her 5-year-old son sustained minor injuries due to the impact. An air ambulance soon took both patients to the Mercy Medical Center in Redding for treatment.
The driver of the Honda, a 34-year-old Hayfork man, died following the collision. Meanwhile, CHP believed that alcohol played a role in the accident.
The Trinity County crash is still under investigation.
