Passenger Killed in Car Accident on I-5 Near Montague Road Thursday
Yreka, CA (January 8, 2021) – One person died following a suspected DUI collision on Interstate 5 Thursday morning, the Siskiyou Daily News reported.
Our sources indicated Irfan Sarwar was behind the wheel of a Toyota Prius traveling south on I-5. In the area near Montague Road, Sarwar reportedly struck a Freightliner big rig parked on the west shoulder of the onramp.
The force from the impact caused the Toyota to veer off the roadway. According to the news article, the car continued traveling west across the Montague Road to southbound I-5 onramp. Officials confirmed the Toyota crashed into other tractor trailers parked on the shoulder of the freeway.
Shortly after 1:30 a.m., emergency teams arrived at the site. Responding paramedics checked the condition of the passenger in the Toyota, and later confirmed they died as a result of the collision. The identity of the deceased remained undisclosed pending confirmation and notification of next of kin.

Meanwhile, officials mentioned Sarwar suffered injuries in the crash. An ambulance transported the driver to Fairchild Medical Center in Yreka for treatment.
Investigators determined Sarwar was intoxicated at the time of the accident. For this reason, police arrested the DUI suspect.
Further investigation on the case is ongoing.
