Irvine Fatal Crash Thursday on 5 South Freeway at Alton Parkway, August 23Woman, 24, Fatally Injured in 10-Car Crash Caused by DUI Driver

IRVINE (August 23, 2018)- According to the Orange County Register, a deadly 10-car collision was trigger by a 22-year-old drunk driver this morning on I-5 south at or near the Alton Parkway off-ramp.

Authorities responded to the crash which transpired at roughly 1:25 a.m. after the drunk driver operating a Dodge Challenger had been speeding with his hazard lights on before hitting a Toyota Prius.

8 Injured Including 3 Children

A series of collisions immediately followed which included a pickup truck as a total of eight people sustained injuries including two children, 11 and 10, as well as a six-month-old baby.

It was determined that a 24-year-old woman from Chula Vista believed to be the mother of the six-month-old tragically did not survive the accident as she was pronounced at the scene.

Meanwhile, all eight injured involved parties were transported via ambulance to local area hospitals for injuries ranging from minor to severe. None of the victim’s injuries, fortunately, appear life-threatening.

Per the Orange County Register, California Highway Patrol authorities concluded that the 22-year-old driver of the Dodge, Nevada resident Irving Abel Aguilar-Calixto, was indeed under the influence. He was transported to a hospital with minor pains but will be arrested for multiple charges pending his release.

All southbound lanes on I-5 were temporarily shut down for over five hours while authorities performed their preliminary investigation.
