Man Killed in Irvine Crash on 405 Freeway Near Jeffrey Road
IRVINE, CA (August 13, 2022) – A crash killed one person on the 405 Freeway near Jeffrey Road in the city of Irvine.
According to The Orange County Register and My News LA, the tragic accident took place on Saturday morning. Officers reported the wreck shortly after 5:30 a.m.
The incident began when for an unknown reason a Toyota Corolla collided with the rear of a minivan on the northbound 405 Freeway in Irvine.
The Toyota then became disabled between the two middle lanes of the freeway near Jeffrey Road. The motorist in the Corolla got out and tried to push his car from the driver’s side door.
Victim Hit by Several Vehicles
A red Ford Mustang approached, failed to see the disabled Toyota and struck its passenger side. In the process, the impact launched the man in his 50s several feet in the air.
The California Highway Patrol said the victim ended up in the roadway, where multiple other vehicles struck him. He soon died at the scene.
The name of the deceased party has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, CHP added that the minivan pulled over to the shoulder following the wreck.
Officers forced the northbound lanes of the 405 Freeway to shut down for about five hours near Jeffrey after the incident. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
