Hit-and-run Car Accident on Interstate 405 Freeway
IRVINE, Calif. (April 13, 2023) — A multi-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and a hit-and-run driver happened Thursday on the southbound Interstate 405 Freeway in Irvine.
The 3-vehicle incident occurred around 12:31 p.m. on April 13th, just north of Jeffrey Road, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The collision involved a motorcycle driving by Jorge Joya, a pickup truck and a Telsa. The Tesla or pickup truck reportedly hit the motorcycle in the No. 1 and HOV lanes.
CHP officials say one of the drivers had a child in the vehicle and allegedly exited the freeway at Irvine Center Drive after the collision. The CHP alerted the Irvine Police Department about the suspect who fled.
Also, the motorcyclist was stopped near the center divider after the crash and his motorcycle was no longer drivable.
Paramedics with Orange County Fire Authority responded to help anyone injured, but the rider declined an ambulance.
A witness apparently recorded the accident on their dash camera and offered it to police.
Meanwhile, a tow truck came to remove a damaged vehicle from the roadway.
The case remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
