Gilman Springs Road Crash Results in Fatality
MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (May 19, 2019) —Isabel Akerlundh, 48, of Moreno Valley, was killed Monday morning in a head-on crash on Gilman Springs Road.
The Riverside County Sheriff Coroner identified the victim on Tuesday.
The collision was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 7:25 a.m. at Big Nash Road. Two vehicles, a dark gray 2015 Dodge Charger and a 2009 Volvo S40 were involved. The Volvo went down the embankment after the crash, near the intersection.
Alexander Orellana, 39, of Moreno Valley, was heading west in the Dodge Charger when he reportedly veered into the path of the Volvo driven by Akerlundh.
The CHP report stated there was debris in traffic lanes and CAL Fire Riverside firefighters were called to respond to help the injured, but unfortunately Akerlundh died at the scene about 7:46 a.m.
Meanwhile, Orellana was briefly trapped in his vehicle. He was transported by ambulance with seriously injuries to Riverside University Health System Medical Center in Moreno Valley. Police closed down the roadway and bridge due to vehicles being on both sides of the roadway.
The crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol- San Gorgonio station to determine fault.
