Woman Killed in Gardena Crash Near Redondo Beach Boulevard and Vermont Avenue
GARDENA, CA (August 29, 2020) – Authorities detained the hit-and-run driver in a crash that killed another motorist near Redondo Beach Boulevard and Vermont Avenue.
Police determined that 19-year-old Isaiah Lono was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs when the fatal collision occurred on Saturday.
According to reports by KTLA and The Daily Bulletin, the incident happened when Lono was allegedly driving a stolen Dodge pickup truck at the time.
The Hawthorne man then struck a Nissan Sentra near the intersection of West Redondo Beach Boulevard and South Vermont Avenue. Officers reported the wreck at about 11:50 a.m.
Suspected DUI Hit-and-Run ID’d as Isaiah Lono, 19
Fire department officials along with the paramedics responded to the scene and found the female driver of the Nissan suffering from serious injuries upon impact.
Medical personnel rushed the victim to Harbor UCLA Medical Center, where she later died. Her name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that Lono abandoned the pickup following the crash and fled on foot. Officers later found him and arrested him on suspicion of homicide, vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run.
