Isaias Mendoza-Inijuez, 28, ID’d as Suspect in Santa Clara Fatal DUI Crash
SANTA CLARA, CA (November 28, 2022) – Authorities detained Isaias Mendoza-Inijuez after a fatal DUI crash in Santa Clara.
Police determined that the 28-year-old Sonoma man was under the influence of alcohol when the wreck took place on Saturday.
The incident began when Isaias Mendoza-Inijuez was driving a Volvo at a high rate of speed west in Santa Clara. He was speeding through the intersection of San Tomas Expressway and El Camino Real.
Police said he then ran a red light and struck a BMW going north at the time. The Mercury News and KRON 4 News wrote that the accident occurred on November 26 at around 12:20 a.m.
1 Killed, 1 Seriously Injured in Wreck
Both cars obtained major damage upon impact. Paramedics arrived and pronounced the passenger in the BMW, a 31-year-old man, dead at the scene of the collision.
Isaias Mendoza-Inijuez and the driver of the BMW, a 32-year-old San Jose woman, sustained major injuries as a result of the crash.
Medical personnel rushed the two patients to the hospital for treatment. The names of the deceased and wounded victims have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, police soon arrested Isaias Mendoza-Inijuez on suspicion of homicide and DUI causing injury. Officers forced the intersection to shut down for a time following the wreck.
