The accident was reported at about 9 p.m. when the driver of a Ford Explorer SUV lost control of the vehicle and struck a guardrail.
Three vehicles were involved in the wreck, but the Explorer overturned and its 10-year-old passenger died at the scene.
Meanwhile, CHP added that a SigAlert was issued and eastbound traffic was backed up west of Cedar Avenue.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
