16-year-old Boy Killed in Carlsbad Rollover Crash in San Diego
CARLSBAD, Calif. (June 24, 2020) — Jack Munday, 16, died and seven other teenagers who were 18 and younger were injured Wednesday morning in a solo-vehicle crash in Carlsbad.
The teenager who died transferred last year to Coastal Academy High School, in Oceanside after attending Carlsbad High School.
The vehicle crashed about 2:30 a.m. when a Toyota 4Runner SUV carrying eight teenagers overturned.
The female driver of the vehicle reportedly lost control and it rolled over multiple times before ending up near Carlsbad Village Drive. Munday suffered fatal injuries and died on scene.
Four others who remained at the scene were transported to hospitals with undisclosed injuries, but three others left the scene on foot before they were located about a block away at Pio Pico Drive. They were also transported to hospitals.
Police investigating the crash stated that at least one person was in the truck at the time of the collision. Drugs and or alcohol were not suspected in the collision, but the investigation is ongoing to determine cause.
