Father, Son Killed in Crash on Highway 97 with Big Rig Truck
SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. (June 21, 2019) — Jack E. Ratliff, 45, of Weed, and his 13-year-old son, Jack Ratlliff, were both killed Thursday morning on Highway 97 when their Jeep Cherokee was rear-ended by a semi-tractor trailer truck.
The California Highway Patrol reported the crash took place about 10:40 a.m. on June 20 near Solus Drive. The driver of the big rig truck reportedly was traveling northbound when the vehicle crashed into the 1992 Jeep, occupied by the Ratliff and his son.
The CHP were told by witnesses that both vehicles were traveling northbound on Highway 97 when the crash took place, refuting an earlier claim that the Jeep made a U-turn when it was hit by the truck. The truck driver, identified as 32-year-old Gupreet Singh Sr. of Sacramento, stopped and is cooperating with police.
CHP is looking for witnesses
The CHP is still requesting witnesses to call them at the Mount Shasta CHP office at (530) 926-2627.
