Jacob Rolon and Richard Zuniga Killed in Anaheim Suspected Hit-and-Run Crash
ANAHEIM, CA (May 5, 2021) – A crash near Brookhurst Street and Orange Avenue killed Jacob Rolon and Richard Zuniga in Anaheim.
The sheriff’s department and family members identified the men as the victims of the fatal accident which occurred on Tuesday.
The incident happened when Jacob Rolon, Richard Zuniga and another man were riding a black Kia Soul in Anaheim. Their Uber car was exiting the parking lot of a hookah lounge at the time.
Police said a white Mercedes-Benz sedan going north on Brookhurst Street then slammed into the Kia. The two crashed near the intersection with Orange Avenue.
Paramedics arrived and pronounced Jacob Rolon, Richard Zuniga and the third man dead at the scene. Deputies described Rolon as a 32-year-old La Mirada resident.
Speed Factor in Fatal Uber Crash
Loved ones set up GoFundMe pages to help cover the funeral expenses of Rolon and Zuniga. KTLA News and NBC Los Angeles wrote that the wreck took place on May 4 at about 2:50 a.m.
Meanwhile, the Mercedes caught fire as a result of the collision. The two female occupants abandoned their car, rode another vehicle and left the area.
The motorist apparently took them to a hospital for their major injuries. Authorities are still determining whether or not the Anaheim crash was a hit-and-run.
Police received reports that the person who drove the woman was a good Samaritan. The relationship between them remains unknown but police believed that speed played a role in the wreck.
